Ok. Let’s talk about one of the greatest albums of all time.
The Violent Femmes 1993 self-titled debut is an amazing raw and what I’d call a pretentious-free distillation of teen boy angst, given that lead singer/song-writer Gordon Gano was still in his teens when it was recorded.
The record uses the barest of instruments, with amazing guitar, bass, drums and the occasional xylophone.
I first encountered the album during my senior year of highschool and I was instantly in love with the simplicity.
I’m not quite sure what my favorite song is.
“Kiss Off” and “Please Do Not Go” lead, but track “Good Feeling” is pure love too. There’s just sooooo much raw goodness.
