Once again, my experiences of Wonder Woman were more from the 1970’s television series than the comics, though I fell in love with the Golden Age Wonder Woman who appeared All-Star Squadron and Infinity, Inc. in the early 80s.
But oh… George Pérez, Len Wein, and Greg Potter’s complete reboot of the character in 1986 was brilliantly handled.
If Pérez illustrated, I was sure to follow. And follow I did!

For me, George Pérez is the single greated superhero illustrator of all-time! And I say that with no exageration.
He could draw a page with over 100 different black-haired women on it and each of them would be 100% unique and not look anything like the others. Each face would be a completely unique person. Few artists in the field ever achieve that level of quality and detail in their work!
Pérez’s Diana returned her to clear-cut Hellenic-based roots, something that was all over the place in earlier iterations.
He gave her the amazing battle armor as well.
And that initial run of stories was truly fantastic. It saddens me that DC editorial dropped the bomb on his War of The Gods series created to celebrate her 50th anniversary!
I honestly can say I haven’t felt anything for any version of Diana/Wonder Woman since she was once again rebooted with The New 52 era. And I’m ok with that. I had the one of the greatest superhero comic creators writing and illustrating her for several years! I’ll take that over anything else!
Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston in All Star Comics #8 (1941)
