I know I’ve mentioned her before, but I need to say it again, one of the truly great pleasures of my geek life is when Sasha from Casually Comics (@CasuallyComics) drops her new weekly video.
There are a few others I watch in “ComicsTube”, but by far, the single most entertaining viewpoint for me is Sasha.
She retains a passion for super hero comics that I more or less have lost, but watching her rekindles that decades long passion in me, however brief.
I was never a fan of the Silver Age, but her enthusiasm for the outright silliness of the 1950s and 1960s (especially with DC) makes me enjoy those stories through her that I never could in actually reading them.
Her skill and voice narration when she recaps a story is always superb, as she has an uncanny way of getting to the perfect moments of a story, no matter the age it was written and drawn in.
Her respect for all of the creators, and I’m talking about always making sure to try and credit the inkers, colorists, and letterers, really sets her above so many others.
And I’m going to bring it up, as it has been on my mind alot with my own project, the fact she’s a woman brings an entirely different perspective to super hero comics discussion that is so different from the male ComicsTube sphere.
I am seeing the key importance more and more in having these diverse critical viewpoints on pop culture these days. I really feel like I’ve been getting a one-sided view of so many thing. Finding women who geek just as hard, be they about comics, Tolkien, history, science, etc., adds so much more to my love of these things in ways I had never imagined when I was younger.
Sasha is tops at the ComicsTube game, and if you have any interest in super hero comics of the past 85+ years, I really do think you’ll appreciate the amount of work she puts into every video she does.
I have a lot to learn from her review/commentary methodology. If I can end up bringing just 25% of her enthusiam to my own forthcoming YouTube efforts than I will have considered it a major success.
Sasha Wood of Casually Comics! Pure joy! Pure originality!
