My very first introduction to The New Teen Titans (and probably George Pérez) was NTT #4 from 1981.
It wasn’t my copy, but my friend D**N’s. (He introduced me to The Legion of Super-Heroes too that same year.)
That is quite the cover to draw you to pick-up the book. I mean, you’ve got the JLA versus the Teen Titans. That’s some bad craziness there.
This is that period with Pérez where he was still a few years off from his matured 80s style, but you can totally see it coming through in much of the line work and inking, especially with characters like Batman, Hawkman, Green Lantern, Cyborg, and Changeling (Beast Boy).
His Wonder Woman isn’t quite there yet, especially in terms of her hair. Same with Zatanna.
He would of course go on to revamp Diana post-1986 and that will forever be my version of Wonder Woman, along with Jerry Ordway’s take on the older Golden Age Diana in Infinity, Inc. a few years later.
Crazy to think this was pencilled and inked in 1980 while I was just 10 years old.
These early 80s books bring me so much joy.
