I was the odd child back in the day who loved DC’s Earth-Two with all the characters from the 1940s.
I loved the Justice Society of America, and I loved the All-Star Squadron!
The real Captain Marvel (from Earth-S) found himself on Earth-Two before this (along with Mary and Jr.) but during the Crisis on Infinite Earths there was a minor cross-over with him in All-Star Squadron.
While I loved Jerry Ordway’s “Power of Shazam” version of the character in the 1990s, I can’t say I can relate in any way to how the changed him after Infinite Crisis and the current version, the one they made the 2 movies about, is unrecognizable to me.
I wish DC editorial had had the balls in 1986 post-Crisis to leave Cap and the Marvel Family firmly in the Golden Age and have him replace the Golden Age Superman (Kal-L) in certain stories.
Cap works so much better in that era.
And they could have made up some reason why he, Mary, and Jr. get shanghied into the then present of the DCU so you could have contemporary stories.
But that is not what happened, much along the lines of losing the trademark name to properly call him Captain Marvel.
He’ll never be Shazam to me.
The real world knows that Shazam is the wizard! And I’m standing on this hill! (Sometimes, you do indeed need to gatekeep on the important things!)
