The 1979 film adaptation is a significant departure from the musical’s theater book/narrative.
However, there are some really well done interpretations of the songs given the change of media.
Shifting the Black Boys/White Boys to a Vietnam Era Draft board review of possible inductees is actually one of the funniest changes. Having the various soldiers singing some of the lyrics make it even funnier, especially for 1979!
I wish the quality of this video was a bit better. (Note: Special appearance by the late great Nell Carter singing White Boys.)
