I truly feel George Pérez’s art matured to its 80s pinnacle with the release of the 2nd Volume of “The New Teen Titans” Baxter Edition and Issue 1’s “Terror of Trigon” Part 1.
By both pencilling and inking himself, he had full control and with this debuting with the Baxter Edition (a billion times better than newsprint comics) his fine detail truly can be appreciated.
I can’t recall who recently shared some pages sans coloring, but the pure power and beauty of his work is manifest here.
Every line is important to the storytelling, creating a verisimilitude in super hero comics that few have been able to achieve.
The tiny details of the splash page in the trees and their leaves, let alone the actual characters themselves! Joseph’s (Jericho) costume itself, with this chainmail pattern is so fine.
With Page 16, Joseph’s hair looks so curly and the use of blacks to hide Raven is just amazing.

The 2-page spread of Trigon is beyond comprehension. He drew every fine line in Joseph’s being blasted and falling! And the rocks! And the energy! And those fingernails! So amazing.

I still remember reading the age where Vic shows Garth what he’s noticed about Raven still blows my mind!
Marv Wolfman and Pérez has been building up this story for years, and had slowly been changing Raven’s appearance from youthful to more severe as her internal struggle with her father’s genes started manifesting, changing her! And it was always there but reading every month it was subtle enough that you didn’t see it unless you reread constantly.

Pure amazeballs!
And it embarrasses me that I do not have a better mature lexicon to describe Pérez’s work most of the time.
