I very much love the Julie Taymor film Across The Universe. I think it did a remarkable job of incorporating and weaving Beatles’ songs into the fabric of the story, which more or less come from the lyrics.
Many of the song renditions are excellent, and Jim Sturgess’ vocals hit me in the feels on many tracks.
My favorite tracks from the film/deluxe soundtrack:
🔥 “Girl” – Jim Sturgess
🔥 “If I Fell” – Evan Rachel Wood
🔥 “Dear Prudence” – Dana Fuchs, Jim Sturgess, Evan Rachel Wood & T.V. Carpio
🔥 “Let It Be (Long Version)” – Carol Woods & Timothy T. Mitchum
🔥 “Flying” – Secret Machines
🔥 “Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite” – Eddie Izzard
🔥 “Something” – Jim Sturgess
🔥 “Strawberry Fields” – Jim Sturgess & Joe Anderson
🔥 “Happiness Is A Warm Gun” – Joe Anderson
🔥 “Hey Jude” – Joe Anderson
Of course, Taymor brings amazing visuals to the film in her own distinctly Julie Taymor way.
If you haven’t seen the film, I highly recommend it purely for the music and visual style.
