I wasn’t a huge fan of the last Black Panther film.
I mean, it was fine and all, but they should have just recast the lead. Treating actor Chadwick Boseman like he was some sacred actor who couldn’t be replaced and all just was… odd. This is show business. Not show friends.
Anyway… the one thing I actually did like the direction the went in making Namor The Sub-Mariner a more grounded character, especially distancing him from the DCEU and “Aquaman” and that Atlantis, which had just been on screen a few years earlier.

Tenoch Huerta did a great job with what he was given, and I actually look forward to seeing him again in this upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” film more than any other character. Hopefully he gets to actually do something in the story.
One of the major reimaginings that I liked, and yet many others hated, was tying him into Pre-Colombian Aztec history.

The production designers did a great job incorporating this aesthetic into this version of Namor, giving him so much visual richness that many comics interpretations lack. (Green underwear only is pretty boring.)
Sometimes, reimagining a character fails, but I think this one works wonders in his favor, especially for a live-action adaptation.

I could have done without the nose septum piercing though, but I just don’t find them visually appealing on anyone.
